COVID-19 communication resources for Oranga Tamariki (updated for Level 3)

New Level 3 resources:See futher down this page to access these new resources

  1. The new dark green set are about NZ at Alert Level 3
  2. There's a new video about Youth Justice at Alert Level 3
  3. A new set that answers questions from young people in youth justice residences about COVID-19 and what it means for them are being finalised and will be out soon.

These COVID-19 resources have been created in partnership between our Talking Trouble team (speech-language therapists and artist) and Oranga Tamariki staff. They are designed to provide clear information for young people about

  • what COVID-19 is
  • what they need to do to stay well and healthy
  • what to do to get help.

The resources have been designed for Oranga Tamariki staff to support communication with young people and whānau. The language and literacy level has been designed to be communication friendly/accessible. We created a suite of tools so that if the literacy level in the resources was too challenging, they could be explained by someone verbally. There are also some videos using the resources so that people can hear the key information, alongside images that support the key messages. They are provided in a range of formats so they can be printed, emailed, texted or used on social media, or adapted for individuals. We have permission from Oranga Tamariki to share these resources here in case others find them useful. We give permission for you to download them to help explain information to people. You are not allowed to use them for any financial gain and the copyright remains with the authors.Attribution — you must give appropriate credit and indicate if changes were made. Let us know your stories about how you used them and how they were received. There are different colour coded sets aimed for young people involved with Oranga Tamariki and their whānau. They are mainly relevant to those living in the community and they might also be useful for those in more secure settings too. You can use all sets if you want or the specific ones you need.Oranga Tamariki are using some to make video resources, such as this one for young people who are involved with youth justice about NZ at Level 3. It is designed to be a resource to support conversations and information sharing. There is a lot of information in this video. Encourage young people to watch it with someone they trust so they can talk about it. Press pause as you watch, so you can talk about what the information might mean for them. Watch the video more than one time. Ask if there are any questions about the information, and make sure they get the answers they need.https://youtu.be/8L2pT_PG2yUThis video is for those who may need Transition Support (those aged 15-25 who have care experience or who have spent time in a youth justice residence).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr5tfZ_MfLE&t=83s
